Organizations
The following is a list of the various organizations and ministries that are supported in part by University Baptist Church.
Love and Care Ministries - Since its inception in 1995, Love and Care Ministries has distributed thousands of articles of clothing, blankets, sleeping bags, socks, coats, shoes, hygiene items and food to the homeless and disadvantaged in the Abilene community. The ministry also provides spiritual counseling and job support, along with medical and dental assistance. Most importantly, Love and Care shares the love of God and good new of Jesus Christ with each individual they come in contact with.
Abilene Baptist Association – From an extensive food pantry to a thriving clothing ministry, the Abilene Baptist Association provides valuable resources for the disadvantaged and needy in the Taylor county area. University Baptist Church consistently collects food items for the ABA, as well as financially partnering with this important and effective ministry.
Hendrick Home for Children – Seeking to provide love and direction for youth in disadvantaged situations, children are admitted to Hendrick Home between the ages of five and fifteen, where their essential needs are met (including medical, dental, clothes, etc.) During their stay (which on average is five years), children learn fundamental responsibilities through their performance of chores, employment opportunities, and involvement in public schools. Upon completion of high school, they receive the opportunity to attend college through a scholarship program.
Noah Project – With a stated mission of “advocating for victims and working to end family violence,” Noah Project provides family violence intervention and prevention through shelters for families, legal advocacy, and crisis counseling. The organization also conducts a school-base program, Healing Hurt Hearts, which features age-appropriate information concerning anger management, domestic violence, and dating violence intended to help break the generational cycles of violence. Noah Project also provides support groups for victims of family violence.
Serenity House – Serenity House offers both residential and outpatient substance abuse rehabilitation at locations throughout Texas. Since its inception, Serenity House has helped more than 22,000 people suffering from addiction. Each patient undergoes a faith-based treatment with a licensed professional counselor who assesses each individual’s need and then seeks to provide him/her with the tools he/she needs to live a successful life in recovery.
Buckner International – Buckner International is a global Christian ministry that seeks justice for “the least of these” by providing care and resources for orphans and at-risk children in the United States and more than 50 countries around the world. Through international orphanage support, humanitarian aid, short-term missions, foster care and adoption, Buckner has made a lasting impact in some of the world’s most poverty-stricken and socially desperate countries.
